From a purely technogeek perspective yesterdays announcements were ... deflating. I'm a big fan of Apple and I walked away feeling like I had just had the smallest piece of cake from my own birthday party. For the non-geek the camera in the iPod nano is a big deal, especially for the American teenager crowd. The kind of crowd that make video and throws them up on YouTube. As for iTunes 9 ... home sharing adds the ability to move/copy files between computers on the home network versus just streaming them. That means my family no longer has to sycn their iPods to the one central library (a Mac mini) in the house just so that we can get access to all the music. My wife can buy music on her MacBook and sync her iPod from there. Any music she purchase is also automatically transferred to the central iTunes library.

Fair enough about the syncing, I guess my media behaviour is very different because I can easily shift around music and podcasts anyway, plus its just me not a wife or children.

I do wonder, because its your machines and your network and even your files. Why there is a limit of 5?

The limit seems reasonable. There is software available that allows me to create a VPN from my network to my brother's network. I've used Hamachi to create a seamless network between my brothers network in Stamford and my network in Princeton. Also, imagine an office where employees have iTunes installed (legitimately or otherwise). Without any limits employees could starts moving huge libraries of movies and music across the LAN causing performance problems as well as creating legal issues for an employer. Now imagine large college campuses ....
